Humility--In Response

My son, Read, is asking questions about humility. I was thinking about it today when Philippians chapter 2 came to mind. I write here a few observations.

vs. 7 says, He made himself of no reputation. The King of Kings chose to set aside His royalty to become a common man. The One who should have servants became a servant. He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death.

In application, humility seems to be something a person chooses to do. It also seems to include giving up certain

rights
The right to be recognized for our position, our heritage, our abilities, etc.

vs.3 instructs us to not "perform" for the praise of others, but rather to think of others as better than you. Which would include not exalting yourself. I'm sure this is just a start on the subject.
